Strider was the name Aragorn came to be known as while he was protecting the Shire at Gandolf's request. Aragorn served as a Ranger for many years fighting Sauron's armies at every opportunity. After Elrond forged the pieces of Narsil back together and named it Anduril, Aragorn put aside his Ranger sword to carry Anduril, the sword of the king.
